Review: The Big Agnes Mica Basin folding chair
As we are traveling quite a bit with our little van we quickly noticed that cheap and bulky chairs are both a waste of space and a continuous annoyance on the road. After searching around we landed on the Mica Basin as a replacement.
A lightweight, small and sturdy camping and backpacking companion
These folding chairs are constructed from a set of linked aluminum bars that stack together and a fabric that gets pulled over the bars and acts as the setting surface and adds rigidity. After several years of use the chairs hold up without any issues.

Checking out a line for next day and just hanging out.
As with anything of high quality these are more expensive than the budget options. While the regular price is above 150 Euros we have found and bought ours for about 70 Euros.

1 liter Nalgene for reference
We use these chairs both as your camping setup when traveling with the van and bring them with us for hikes or other outings if we want the option to chill in comfort.
Advantages:
- Easy and quick to setup
- Sturdy
- Comfortable
- Packs down very small
- Lightweight
Disadvantages:
- Sitting position is fairly low and angled
- Significantly more expensive than your average „music festival“ folding chair
In summary I would recommend this chair if you are short on space and want the option to carry it on your back if necessary.
